  Krka National Park

Krka National Park is home to some of the most beautiful sights. The park surrounds the Krka river and the main attraction is the Skradinski Buk waterfall. The waterfall is made up of lots of cascades one after each other. At the bottom of the waterfall is a natural pool where you can swim. The park has 7 waterfalls in total. You can buy tickets for this park online or at the entrance. The tickets include a boat trip through the park (although the boat trip does not operate from November to March). The park is approximately an hour outside of Split. 

  Marjan Forest Park

This national park is a great escape from the city of Split. It is home to Marjan Hill which many people choose to visit in order to see the beautiful views of Split and the Adriatic sea. The park has trails for hiking and biking. Bikes are available for rent at the park. Alternatively, there is a tourist train which will take you to the top if you do not wish to walk/bike. 

  Diocletian's Palace

Located in the city centre of Split, Diocletian's palace is one of the most impressive Roman ruins. The palace used to be home to Diocletian who was once a Roman emperor. It was built when Diocletian retired as he wanted to return to his place of birth; Salona which is near to Split. The ancient ruins are now part of Split's old town and shops, restaurants and bars can be found in the old buildings. It has become the heart of the city. 

  Klis Fortress

Klis Fortress is a medieval fortress which is situated above the village of Klis. It is a beautiful place to explore and wander around whilst on holiday in Split. The fortress has also played a part in the filming of the popular television series Game of Thrones. It was used in season 4 as the streets of Meereen. There is also a small exhibition there which is all about the show and includes photos of the set. If you are planning on visting the fortress here is some useful infomation:

  • Tickets can be bought at the entrance. The price varies depending on the time of year. 
  • It is open from 9am to 4pm. 
  • Located about a 5 minute walk from the fortress you can find a coffee shop and market where food and drink can be bought. 

  Kasjuni Beach

This beach, located at the bottom of Marjan Hill Park, is an attractive destination for swimming and sunbathing. It has a peaceful, quiet feel which makes it an excellent place to enjoy a relaxing day out with friends or family. The beach is finely pebbled and has a beautiful backdrop of the forest hills. There are sunbeds and parasols available for rent, as well as a beach/lounge bar and a restaurant. It is approximately 2.5km from the centre of Split.

   Froggyland   

If you are looking for something a bit different then Froggyland is an exhibit which is not to be missed. It is a  mueseum of stuffed frogs arranged in human scenarios all of which are dramatic or comical. There are over 500 frogs and they are all the work of one man, a Hungarian taxidermist named Ference Mere. The frogs have been around since the 20th century have ended up creating this bizarre mueseum.
