Heure Bleue Palais, Essaouira
Charming Moroccan riad offering a personalized service
This palace of marvels lies in the heart of Essaouira, a mysterious and spiritual place loved by artists and adventurers alike. L'Heure Bleue Palais has succeeded in preserving the character of a traditional Moroccan house and the hospitality cherished by this country. At the crossroads of African, Moorish, Portuguese, English and oriental influences, the rooms and suites are located around the patio, where a fountain sings and the heart of the Riad beats. The traditional hamman is the perfect place to relax, the panoramic outdoor pool on the terrace overlooks the medina and the ocean, and the cuisine is a subtle blend of French and Moroccan influences.
This large 18th century riad at the medina's entrance has been renovated to transform it into a charming hotel with 33 suites and rooms. The Heure Bleue's defining feature is a huge fenced panoramic terrace with a heated pool and a unique view of the town formerly known as Mogador. An English lounge with an intimate atmosphere, and a gastronomic restaurant open out onto a leafy patio. Here, you can discover the new Essaouira cuisine thanks to Chef Ahmed Handour. It would be impossible to stay here without discovering the middle eastern ritual of the hammam at the Heure Bleue's Petit Spa.

A Word from the General Manager |
We love L'Heure
bleue Palais and are proud to share with you a reference of the
Moroccan hotel industry, member of the prestigious association of
Relais & Châteaux.
Our charming riad is leaning against the rampart that ends the medina of Essaouira. Authentic Moroccan house, it gravitates around the traditional central patio, vast, fresh and green. Everywhere, the elegant decor marries the European, Mediterranean, Arab and African influences of the city.
Its high panoramic roof terrace offers a heated swimming pool and a breathtaking view of the old city at sunset.
I wish you enjoy the peacefulness of our walls when you return from the medina so lively and that you fully enjoy the art of receiving in Morocco: attentive hospitality, smiling good mood, efficient discretion, rich and warm comfort of rooms and lounges, relaxing spa and steam room, tasty gastronomy.
Yes, dear guests, Marhaban bikoum, welcome !
History and Philosophy |
L'Heure
Bleue Palais is born of a magnificent dream: to give Essaouira a
prestigious address worthy of its rich past at the crossroads of
African, European and Arab civilizations. The establishment has
retained the cachet of a traditional Moroccan mansion and offers
all the comforts of a large hotel brand. The living rooms,
bedrooms, suites and lounges, converge on the patio, a meeting
place where a fountain sings and throbs at the heart of the
riad
The History |
Originally
built at the end of the 18th century, on the ruins of an ancient
'fondouk' - hostel for travelling traders - the 'sleeping beauty',
as it was called by the locals, initially was the sumptuous
residence of the pasha Caïd Mbark Saidi. Later acquired by a
wealthy merchant, it then served as an orphanage until the 1960s,
before being abandoned. It was then that the Azoulay family - a
family with long roots in Mogador - and associates decided to
restore this once noble residence and bring it back to life.
L'Heure Bleue Palais opened its doors in June 2004 after three
years of renovation and reconstruction, now with a new identity as
a luxury hotel. Today L'Heure Bleue Palais is the pride of
Essaouira to which countless craftsmen and artisans brought their
passion and unique know-how.
