5 Columns is in the ancient medina of Essaouira, Southern Morocco's favourite beach town. A beautiful 200-year-old house in the authentic and friendly Chbanat area, famous for its textile and craft workshops, and near to the main gate of Bab Marrakech. The property can comfortably accommodate 8 guests in four double bedrooms all with en-suite bathrooms and is set over four floors with two large sunny roof terraces and an outside kitchen and bar area. Essaouira is a food-lovers heaven, with cafés and restaurants all within walking distance from the house, and the beach just a 10-minute stroll.
Accomodation overview
The house has been sympathetically restored, retaining all the
original features such as the sandstone columns, thuya wood
ceilings and the antique tiled floor of the inner courtyard. It is
furnished with a mix of vintage & modern European furniture and
art, with some beautiful Moroccan antiques and paintings by local
artists, alongside works by contemporary British artists. Split
over four floors, the house has two garden roof terraces; one with
a kitchen and bar - great for outside dining and looking out across
the medina rooftops, the other terrace is perfect for late
afternoon sun. There are four double bedrooms, all with en-suite
wet room bathrooms, and two cosy snug lounge rooms with large open
fireplaces, and comfortable chairs. The bright covered courtyard
dining area with a large dining table seating eight, is surrounded
by mature plants, and is located next to the fully equipped
kitchen, ideal for long lazy breakfasts, and dinner at home.
The housekeeper Fatima will provide general cleaning during your stay and is also available to prepare food on request, at an additional cost. You will be met on arrival by the house manager Rachid, who will also be your point of contact during your stay. On your arrival, you will be taken on a short tour of the medina by Rachid, who can also help arrange excursions, taxis, or anything else you may need.
Surrounding area
The Medina, an Unesco World Heritage Site, and the beautiful
fishing harbour are great places to explore. There is a stunning
sandy beach, with many beachside cafes and restaurants, and the
bustling harbour, all within walking distance from the house. The
beach is great for kite and windsurfing, along with camel and horse
rides to the famous crumbling fort, Bordj El Berod. If you love
fresh fish and seafood, the fish stalls by the harbour offer a wide
variety of local produce. Simply choose your fresh fish from the
stand and they will cook it and bring to your table. Unlike the big
city that is Marrakech, Essaouira is laidback and timeless with
sandy coloured ramparts, whitewashed avenues, French-style piazzas,
and a port full of azure blue fishing boats.

Additional Guests: The price shown above is for up to 3 guests. The additional price for extra guests, up to a maximum of 8 guests (this does not apply to children aged 4 years and under, as they can stay for free);
- During peak season an additional £58 per additional guest per night is payable (£400 per week per additional guest)
- During standard season an additional £43 per additional guest per night is payable (£300 per week per additional guest)

Tourist Tax: There is a tourist tax which will be payable locally., please ask us about current tax amount, although the amount could change before your travel dates.
Security/Breakages Deposit: A £300 (GBP) security/breakages deposit is payable, which we will hold against any losses, damage or any other charges you occur during your stay at the property. The costs of any losses, damage to your holiday accommodation or any item in it or on its grounds caused by a member of your party, or any other charges you or your party incur during your stay will be deducted from your security/breakages deposit with the residue refunded back to you, usually within 10 days of checking out.
Deposit: A 25% reservation deposit secures your booking and can be paid by credit/debit card by calling our office on +44 (0) 1449 770811.
Final Balance Payment: The final balance is due 12 weeks before departure together with your refundable £300 security/damage deposit.

We had a super holiday with friends in Essaouira. And that is definitely thanks to the wonderful accommodation, Lisa's good care and the incredibly sweet Fatima. The riad is really amazing, beautifully decorated and very well located. I really fell in love with the atmosphere and super friendly people in Essaouira. Just opening the front door in the morning and soaking up the vibe of the crack of dawn made us really happy. We actually still miss it...so we will definitely come back! Once again super thank you!
5 Columns was a jewel in Essaouira's crown! A wonderful warm welcome and dinner from Fatima really started our trip off to a brilliant start. Essaouira offers wonderful water sports, shopping, gorgeous hammam spas, sunset bars and the sounds of beautiful prayers. One week was not enough! Lisa the host is brilliant at responding and really letting you know about all the superb places to visit and the hidden gems. My friends and I had fab lunches on the beach, we bought art, candles, beautiful vases and spices! A trip to remember - I can't wait to go back! 10/10
Came to Essaouira on a whim and almost entirely because of the pictures of 5 Columns. The house is every bit as beautiful as it seems in pictures - I couldn't stop taking picture of the furniture and textiles - but it was Lisa's hosting that truly made the trip so exceptional. She has a fantastic list of things to do and she was unbelievably responsive to every single message I sent. Staying at Lisa's home made this trip so easy and her insightful, friendly advice made it easy to make the most of Essaouira. Hugely grateful to her for making this trip really special.
Our second visit to 5 Columns and certainly not our last. It's a beautifully furnished, spacious house within the walls of Essaouira's vibrant and authentic medina. 5 columns has two rooftop terraces and a bar area where you can chill and relax. Really like that you have shops, a working market and numerous restaurants and cafes all within 5 minutes walk of the house. And the beautiful beach is only 10 minutes walk away. Rachid and Fatima are always at hand to assist and Lisa gave us lots of information and tips about the house and Essaouira in general. Can't wait to go back!
As soon as we arrived and entered 5 Columns it was just an attack on the creative senses. A pure WOW moment on entering the Riad. Beautifully interior designed amd impossible to choose which room to sleep in as each one has its own personal beauty from the artwork and layout in each room so much attention to detail. A relaxing vibe and the table in the kitchen really is a place to talk your hearts out. "the table of truth" location wise it's so close to everything a shopping paradise and Lisa the host prepared us well with all the best places to eat and visit. It was a short stay of 4 nights and was so sad to leave as a piece of my heart is still left there to pick up upon my return. I left wanting more and certainly will be back. Amazing value and a space to die for. The food made for us on arrival by the lovely house keeper was also wonderful. I recommend this place 150% book you will not regret it.
